0: Your CV is so important because it's the first thing that anyone will see when
3: you apply for a job. So. let's explore how to best structure your CV.
22: Hi everyone, welcome to Career Hacks. We'll be showing our top tips and career
27: advice to help you in your job search. I'm Jordan from Michael Page Technology.
32: First and foremost, you need to have a very strong introduction, or personal
36: profile, that really grabs the attention of the agency or employer that's
40: reviewing your CV. So my advice is always: get some real hard facts in there. I've
45: had X amount of experience in this industry, in this job. I've had this many
51: promotions over the last five years, I've delivered to these senior stakeholders.
56: You know, real tangible facts that really grab the attention of whoever's reviewing
61: your profile. It's really key to effectively communicate your career
67: history at each company, effectively. So, the best way to do this is to have your
73: company the job title and the dates. The dates being really important because it
79: shows either you've had a long tenure at a client, or you've been there for a
84: short while because you were parachuted in to do a specific job, a specific role,
88: that perhaps they need to hire for. Underneath that, you then need to put a
93: couple of sentences stating what business unit you were involved in,
97: business units you were delivering to, project team you were involved in, tasks
101: that your team were defined or we're achieving to hit. Underneath that, I'd
105: then suggest you do about five or six bullet points specifically about what
108: role you did, what responsibilities you had. Very clear, very concise and keep it,
114: you know, achievements focused. Lastly, I've seen some very long CVs in my time. One
123: example is what a 30-page CV. That poor person spent so long writing out their
127: CV because they just wanted to tell someone how great they were, how rich
130: their career history was. And I 100% back you to do that in an interview. Your CV
137: gets you the interview, when you're in the interview, you can then tell them
142: about your 30-year career history. You need to keep it concise. Four pages is
146: probably the maximum limit that would suggest you do. Anything longer than that
150: it could look like you're overly articulating. So, remember the aim of your
154: CV is to secure that interview. You want the employer or the agency to
159: think I need to get this person in for that interview, you then allow yourself
164: the opportunity to secure that role. Thank you for joining me. I hope you
168: found this helpful and good luck in your job search.
