3: My advice to you, when you’re starting out in your career, is to make sure you have a correct CV.

10: If you don’t have your CV set up properly,

12: then your first impression at any company that you’re starting off with is not going to be good.

18: So, think about, first of all, what is the structure of a CV?

21: How well is it organized? What is the information you want to communicate?

25: And in order to do that properly, really what you need to look at,

28: is the company you’re applying to.

30: Look at the job description, do research on the company.

34: Find out what that company does, how you can align with that company,

38: and how your skills and your experience will match up with the specific job that is being advertised.

44: For example, if you’re looking for a sales job,

46: maybe they’re looking for someone who has sales experience, who has team experience,

50: is a good communicator, who’s passionate, who’s competitive.

53: Look at what experience you have and how you can express that on your CV

59: so that your CV aligns with that of the job description.

63: Think also about the recruiter.

65: The recruiter is someone who has very little time when they’re recruiting.

69: So, when they pick up a CV,

71: they want to be able to look very quickly and go “yes, this is the right person” or not.

75: So, if you align yourself with the job description,

78: if you think about the key words and you only put the experience which is relevant on your CV,

84: then that’s going to mean that I’ll be able to see that very quickly and make my decision.

89: Even while you’re studying, you’re going to need to get work experience

92: and internships are really important. Try also to get international experience.

96: Don’t just do internships in your own country. Try to do them overseas.

100: More and more companies these days are global and

103: they’re all looking for people with international experience.

106: If you don’t have any internship experience yet, think about what other things you’ve been doing,

110: for example, while you’ve been at school. Maybe you were the head of some club.

113: Maybe you worked with the football team or the basketball team.

117: Because the other thing I want to see is achievements.

119: I want to see that you’re goal-oriented, that you’ve been successful at different things,

123: and that you understand that that’s what I’m looking for.

125: Maybe when you were on the basketball team, you won the local cup.

128: Put that on your CV because then I can see you’re someone who is focused in that direction.
