Stock markets in emerging economies have been overtaken by 'Frontier' markets

Investors have long loved emerging economies like China and India, which a year ago saw its index of shares rising nicely

So too did a share index of frontier economies

Smaller and poorer places, like Vietnam, Nigeria, Croatia, and Argentina

But then the world changed

Emerging market growth slowed and the share index fell, yet Frontier markets went up and stayed high

When markets rebounded last April both areas gained

But Frontier markets did better and for longer

Investors expect strong growth

When shares retreated, the loss for emerging markets was deeper

Their days of hypergrowth may be behind them

Over the past month both areas have perked up, but the emerging economies index is about where it was a year ago, while frontier markets are 25% higher
